When Plans Changed

When we first came to Belize, we thought we had a starting point.
We had been in contact with a medicinal farm and planned to stay there for a few months to learn about tropical plants and their uses locally. It seemed like a practical place to begin. But once we arrived, it became clear it wasn’t the right fit for us.

Not a big deal, thats why we arrived on wheels, so we explored villages along the Carribean Sea.

Soon, we met a young family who needed help in their situation. Belize saw their oppression and granted them refugee status and work permits. It was impossible to know how the government would respond to the situation, whither laws would be enforced, or if the vulnerable young family would be protected. We were thankful to see an appropriate response, and blessed to watch them family flourish now with wages and stability.

It wasn’t something we had mapped out ahead of time, but it became part of our experience early on. That season clarified a few things. We realized we weren’t stepping into something already built, we would need to create something ourselves, and take it one step at a time.

Not long after, we settled onto our own off grid land cabin. It was simple and needed a lot of work, but it gave us a place to start.

The original plan changed, but the direction didn’t. We are consistently moving forward on our calling to serve vulnerable people in Central America.

We are walking beside folks on tough roads, connecting resources, refuge and and community, your support of glowtogether.org helps make it possible.
